These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Joysts(“Joysts,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your access to and use of the Joysts website, applications, and services (together, the “Service”). Please read them carefully.
1.Who we are
Joysts is a home-management platform that turns your inspection reports, public records, permits, photos, and documents into a single structured, searchable record of your home — and lets you ask questions about your home through an AI assistant grounded in your own documents. Payments are handled by our Merchant of Record. Paid subscriptions are sold and processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd(“Paddle”), which acts as the reseller and merchant of record for those transactions. Your purchase is therefore also subject to Paddle's Checkout & Buyer Terms. Where those terms conflict with these Terms in relation to payment, tax, or billing, Paddle's terms control for that transaction.
2.Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, clicking “I agree,” or otherwise accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” refers to that organization.
3.Eligibility & your account
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a legally binding contract.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
Notify us promptly at support@joysts.com if you suspect any unauthorized use of your account.
You may sign up with an email and password or through a supported single-sign-on provider (such as Google). You are responsible for maintaining access to the email address associated with your account.
4.The Joysts service
The Service may allow you to, among other things:
Upload and store documents, photos, and other files relating to your home;
Have those materials automatically read and organized into a structured record (systems, dates, model numbers, costs, findings, and similar facts);
Retrieve publicly available property information (such as parcel data, tax history, and recorded permits) associated with an address you add;
Ask natural-language questions and receive AI-generated answers grounded in your record; and
Receive maintenance reminders and periodic summaries about your home.
Features vary by plan and may change over time. Some features depend on third-party data that is not available for every address or jurisdiction.
5.AI features & no professional advice
Joysts uses artificial intelligence to read your documents and generate answers, summaries, reminders, and suggestions. This is an important limitation, so please read it carefully.
Informational only. The Service — including AI output, extracted facts, maintenance suggestions, permit guidance, and risk indicators — is provided for general informational and organizational purposes only. It is not professional advice and is not a substitute for a licensed home inspector, contractor, engineer, appraiser, attorney, insurance professional, or your local building or permitting authority.
May be incorrect. AI can misread documents, miss information, or produce answers that are inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Public records and third-party data may also contain errors. You should independently verify any information before relying on it, especially for decisions involving safety, money, permits, legal rights, or property transactions.
You remain responsible. Any action you take based on the Service is your own decision and at your own risk. Always confirm permit requirements, code compliance, and system conditions with a qualified professional and the relevant authority.
6.Plans, billing & payment
Joysts offers a free plan and a paid subscription, Joysts Complete, billed monthly ($12/month) or annually ($99/year), plus optional additional properties at $29 per property per year. Current pricing and plan features are shown on our Pricing page.
Merchant of Record
All paid transactions are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd as merchant of record. Paddle collects payment, issues receipts, and calculates and remits any applicable taxes. Your statement will show a charge from Paddle (or a Paddle descriptor).
Automatic renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current rate, using your payment method on file, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize these recurring charges.
Taxes
Listed prices are in US dollars and exclude tax unless stated otherwise. Applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST is calculated at checkout based on your location and added to your total.
Price changes
We may change our prices or plan features. If a change affects your active subscription, we will give you reasonable advance notice (for example, by email), and the change will take effect on your next renewal. If you do not agree, you may cancel before the change takes effect.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, we or Paddle may retry the charge and may suspend or downgrade paid features until payment is resolved.
7.Cancellation & refunds
You can cancel at any time from Settings → Manage subscription, which opens your billing portal. When you cancel, your paid features continue until the end of the period you have already paid for, and your account then reverts to the Free plan. Refund eligibility — including our 14-day money-back guarantee for new subscribers — is described in full in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
8.Your content & documents
You own your content.Documents, photos, notes, and other materials you upload (“Your Content”) remain yours. We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, copy, process, display, and transmit Your Content solely to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Service for you — including sending it to the third-party processors described in our Privacy Policy (for example, to read a document with an AI model or to generate an answer). This license exists only so we can run the Service and ends when you delete the content or close your account, subject to routine backups and legal retention.
You are responsible for Your Content and represent that you have the rights needed to upload it and to grant this license. You can export your data or delete your account at any time from the app; see our Refund Policy and Privacy Policy for retention details.
9.Acceptable use
You agree not to:
Use the Service in violation of any law or regulation, or to infringe anyone's rights;
Upload content you don't have the right to upload, or that is unlawful, harmful, or malicious;
Upload another person's personal or property information without a lawful basis to do so;
Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours, or probe, scan, or breach security;
Reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy the Service except as permitted by law, or resell or redistribute it;
Interfere with or place an unreasonable load on the Service, or bypass usage limits, rate limits, or access controls;
Use the Service to build a competing product, or to train a competing machine-learning model.
We may investigate and take appropriate action, including suspending or terminating accounts, for violations.
10.Third-party data & services
The Service incorporates data and services from third parties, including public records providers, mapping and geocoding services, climate and environmental data, AI model providers, and our payment processor. This information is provided “as is,” may be incomplete or inaccurate, and is not guaranteed. Your use of third-party services may also be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party content, data, or services.
11.Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, and the Joysts name and logo, is owned by Joysts or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal or internal business purposes. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without obligation to you.
12.Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, how we handle your documents and AI processing, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Service, you acknowledge that policy.
13.Availability & changes
We work to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and may release features on a beta or experimental basis, which may be changed or withdrawn. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes that affect paid features.
14.Disclaimer of warranties
Except where prohibited by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI output or third-party data. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of the above may not apply to you.
15.Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Joysts and its officers, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or property value, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us (or Paddle for the Service) in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US $100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
16.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Joysts and its personnel from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.
17.Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we reasonably believe your use poses a risk to the Service or others. On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive. Handling of your data after termination is described in our Privacy Policy.
18.Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute not resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in North Carolina, and you consent to venue and personal jurisdiction there. Before filing a claim, please contact us at legal@joysts.com so we can try to resolve it. Nothing here deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer laws in your place of residence.
19.Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you (for example, by email or in-app notice). Changes take effect when posted unless stated otherwise. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective means you accept the revised Terms.
